South Soccer Recap
by Chase Putnam
A year to be remembered is the least you can say about the 2015 park hill south men’s soccer team. They did not reach their ultimate goal of a state title and came up short in the quarter finals last Saturday against rockhurst, losing 1-0. However, they set a few records of their own and won a conference and a district championship.
Finishing with a regular season record of 20-2-0 and undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record the panthers were ranked number one in the state and 147 in the nation. As well beating our in district rivals the park hill Trojans both times this year with score of 1-0 and 4-0.
Colton smith, junior, who was a starter on this years team spoke about the success the had and said, “I was extremely proud how we played together as a family and a team this year, we put in a lot of work this past off season and it payed off on the field but sadly we came up a bit short and didn’t reach our goal of a state title. Next year we are going to work even harder than before and bring south a state championship.”
On top of a tremendous season this team broke two new records in south soccer history. They scored the most goals out of any previous team and even better gave up the fewest amount of goals since the first team when the school opened in 1999.
This years seniors have another thing to be proud of and something that will leave their mark as the class of 2016, is that they were the most winningest class ever to play soccer here at south.
Junior starter turner hall commented about the leaving seniors and said, ” we as juniors and I can speak for the sophomore class as well really looked to the seniors as leaders who brought us even closer as a family and I am really going to miss them they were a huge key of our success this year.”
