On any normal Sunday, Arrowhead stadium is radiating with energy. The howls blare through the air with repeated attempts at shattering your eardrums. The unwithering Chiefs fans vigorously taunt their opposing fans and players, with an unmatched pride for their Kansas City Chiefs.

Even with their renowned reputation for being the loudest and most prideful team around, the Chiefs fans wanted to prove they were the best stadium in the world. They were out to set a new Guinness World Record against their long time rivals, the Oakland Raiders.

Jacob Lane, sophomore said, “It was a great idea, especially since arrowhead can get so loud.”

They were going to try to trump the previous sound barrier for stadiums around the world set by the Seattle Seahawks fans a month earlier. They would have to pass the 136.5 decibel mark.

One chiefs fan Kaleb Leanard, sophomore, said “They’d break the record they’re the loudest stadium in the NFL.”

It started off a defensive game, neither team taking the advantage in the first quarter. Going into the second quarter it was 0-0. Then the raiders strike first blood on a 78 yard, six play drive, ending with a Touchdown pass from Quarterback Terrelle Pryor to Wide Receiver Denarius Moore.

“I was a little nervous but was confident the Chiefs would come back.” said Lane.

Six plays later the Chiefs Jamaal Charles runs the ball in from the seven yard line tying the game up at seven all.

Isaiah Jones, senior said,  “The crowd went crazy.”

But the decibel calculator only reached 143 decibels. Going into halftime, the game was tied 7-7.

The second half begins. The first part of the second half was a dogfight. The chiefs forced a Raiders punt.

Darius Detmon, sophomore, said, “The Chiefs have a shutdown defense this year and I was pretty sure that they wouldn’t let the Raiders score again.”

Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs started driving down the field. Smith threw it to Donnie Avery, who fumbled in the red zone. Raiders ball.

Four plays later Terrelle Pryor threw a pick to the hands of Quintin Demps. Again the uproar of the crowd echoed through the stadium with excitement. The decibel number  reached 153.

After a four play drive Jamaal Charles punched the ball in with a two yard run.

Jones said, “Jamaal Charles is by far their best offensive player.”

The Chiefs were up 14-7 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter started off as a defensive battle with no score for the first six drives. Then Terrelle Pryor dropped back for a pass threw it up, and Marcus Cooper, defensive back for the Chiefs comes down with it. I was siked the chiefs made another great fourth quarter play said sophomore, Brandon Rice. The Chiefs then lead a drive for a field goal by kicker Ryan Succop.

The Raiders got the ball back on a Chiefs kickoff. Again it’s a pass, Terrelle Pryor dropped back. The Chiefs D-line put intense pressure on Pryor forcing him to throw it up. Husain Abdullah, another defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs, jumped in the air and snagged it. Abdullah returned it for another Chiefs touchdown.

You could feel the anticipation building as Abdullah ran for the touchdown. Similar to the tension you would feel as the last seconds of an armed bomb ticked away–BOOM!

“Arrowhead Stadium went berserk–they set the new world record at 137.5 decibels,” said Rice.

The Chiefs had proven that the are the loudest fans,  now holding the new Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium in not just the NFL, but the world.
