Snap or Crap?

Recently, Snapchat has remodeled their entire app and it is leaving students very frustrated.

Since 2010, Snapchat has been taking the world by storm. But since a recent update, the app has become much less popular.

Snapchat is a very popular app among young adults. It is a simple and casual way to communicate with peers. There are lots of mixed opinions about the new update and how it makes the app function.

A majority of students dislike the update a lot.

Max Rosario (Sophomore) describes the new update as “Pointless and not practical.”

“I am actually very lucky, I do not have the new Snapchat update. Somehow I still don’t have it I’ve heard that people don’t like it very much,” said Cameron Gillespie (Sophomore).

The update is set up where everything is all on one page. Your Snapchats, along with peoples’ stories, are all stacked on top of each other, making it hard to separate who you Snapchat versus whose stories you are viewing. Before the update, Snapchats and peoples’ stories were on completely separate pages, making it easy to tell the difference between the two.

“I can’t watch stories. It takes longer for me to reply to people because when I open the snap, it goes straight to the bottom making it difficult to respond in general,” says Rosario.

Although the app is disliked by many, some South students have accepted it.

“I wasn’t a big fan of the update at first, but I’ve gotten used to it. I don’t necessarily like it, and if I could change it back to how it used to be I would,” said Matt Suchanick (Sophomore).

Students are learning to accept the update because Snapchat is so popular among people of this generation.

“Everyone has it and uses it, so it makes you want to use it and follow along with that trend,” says Gillespie.

Although many people have complained directly to Snapchat about the update, they have made it very clear that the update is here to stay.
