Jamaal Charles has been a Kansas City Chief since he was drafted in 2008. He’s been a great running back and has had multiple 1000 rushing yard seasons to show for it. Unfortunately, Charles has had his career plagued with injuries and setbacks. Jamaal has only played in eight games in the past two years.

His time in Kansas City was already running out, but he since he got hurt, the Chiefs finally had to release him to the free agency. Charles will be missed in Kansas City but this is a decision that the Chiefs made for their future. He should be able to get a good starting spot on another team if he fully recovers and has already drew the interest of a few teams.

Jamaal has rushed 1332 times for 7260 rushing yards and also caught 285 passes for 2457 yards. With numbers like these teams with a struggling running game should pay him a good amount.

This was a decision that won’t affect the Chiefs as much as everyone thinks. Although Charles is a great player that can catch and receive the ball, the Chiefs haven’t lost much of a step in their run game.

They have had people step in and fill his position each season. Last season Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West split rushing attempts but West lead with 160 attempts to Ware’s 72 attempts. This season Ware dominated the reps with 214 while West only got 88. The Chiefs were 15th in rushing yards this season but they were very consistent and were considered a threat to defenses.

The Chiefs have the decision to either keep both Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware or to get some promising talent in the upcoming draft.

Brandon Crabtree said, “If you combine Christian McCaffrey and the Chiefs, that’s a dominant force in the next few years.”
