Sporting KC Play-Off Push

Sporting Kansas City is finishing strong in the Western Conference with the fifth spot on the table. The top six advance to the playoffs, so with Sporting at fifth they have a shot at winning the title this season.

Last weekend Sporting faced the San Jose Quakes on their home turf. Sporting was victorious with a score of 2-1. The goal scorers were Dom Dwyer and Kevin Ellis for sporting. Sporting now has a record of 12-12-7 with only three games left to go.

“Mathematically speaking, eight points from Sporting Kansas City’s final three matches would guarantee a playoff berth.” said Sporting analyst Sam Kovzan.

Out of the three games left, Sporting has to face the New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, and San Jose Quakes. The playoffs are a reality playing against the seventh place New England Revolution, and the ninth place Quakes. Real Salt Lake will be tough competition as they are placed one spot ahead of Sporting on the Western Conference table.

If Sporting were to defeat Real Salt lake they would be placed higher on the table giving them a more secure spot in the playoffs this year. But eight points will completely secure their playoff chance. Since it is impossible to get eight points from three games (3 points for a win, 1 point for tie, 0 for a loss) Sporting will have to win their last three games.

“Even if Sporting Kansas City doesn’t take maximum points, they’re still in solid shape. As Sports Club Stats calculates, the team has better than a 90 percent chance of making the playoffs with 46 points — just three more than its current total.” said Kovzan

Sporting has a real shot at making the playoffs this year which gives them the chance to win the cup for Kansas City.
