Tragedy in Oregon

On October 1, lives in Oregon (and in most of the United States) were changed. On that Thursday, a shooting took place at a community college south of Eugene in Roseburg, Oregon.

The town is home to about 22,000 people (according to the U.S. Census) which is about seven times as much as Riverside.

Umpqua Community College was having a normal day until the shooter came to Snyder Hall. Chris Harper, who was 26, came into the room carrying five pistols and a rifle killed ten people according to CNN.

A scary statistic, as published by The Washington Post, says that in the last 274 days, there have been 294 mass shootings. As defined by them a mass shooting is a shooting consisting of at least four deaths.

So should that worry students at South?

Not really.

According to the U.S. Census, there are about 100 thousand public schools. Therefore you have 0.00001% chance of having it happen to you. Plus there is a police station right next to our school.
