It’s 7:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Most high school teenagers are still in their beds, and won’t even considering leaving it for another couple hours. However, a select group of athletes is not only up and about, but on a school bus heading to an area high school for a day long tournament. These are your Panther wrestlers, and they do this almost every weekend in the winter.
The Panthers will travel to Winnetonka High School to take part in the Winnetonka Invitational. Over a dozen area high school teams will also be taking in this invitational, including Blue Springs, Staley, Kearney, and Rockhurst.
Although some Wrestlers will look at this weekend tournament like every other tournament they do, senior Kenric Cook knows that isn’t the case.
“This is our biggest tourney off the year,” Cook said. “This isn’t your everyday wrestling invitational.”
Alex Carpenter, junior, knows it will take a lot to come out on top.
“Everyone needs to step up and do their best,” Carpenter said. “We need to prove that we are the best wrestlers there are.”
Both agree that they have what it takes to win.
“This year, our chances of winning are even greater than they have been before,” Carpenter added. “This is our year to succeed.”
