Park Hill South, led by juniors Payton Meek and Hudson Welty, along with senior Anthony Woods, faced off against rival Park Hill tonight. The game was close throughout the entire game, but the Panthers pulled it out, beating the Trojans 51-47
After starting out slow, the Panthers jumped to a 17-7 lead after the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was back and forth, but South still lead at halftime by the score of 27-15.
The third quarter was similar. Both teams played even, but junior Peyton Meek hit a clutch 3-pointer at the buzzer to swing momentum back in South’s favor. After three, South led 36-26.
But Park Hill wouldn’t let up. Trojan junior Ricky Trammell brought the Panther’s lead all the way down to three points, but South proved to be too strong, winning the game 51-47.
A key component that drove South to victory was the student section’s support. Over 100 of South’s student body showed up to cheer the Panthers to victory. A new tradition was implemented: the “Silent Night” game. The student section remained quiet until South scored its 10th point, courtesy of a Woods 3-pointer. Then, the students erupted, causing the Trojans to call a time-out.
With the win, South gets their 10th win of the season. They will play the Titans of Lee’s Summit West this Friday in Lee’s Summit.
