Park Hill South, led by junior Payton Meek and senior Anthony Woods, opened up the Liberty North Invitational game with a quarterfinal match-up against Pembroke Hill. The game was never really close, with the Panthers running over the Raiders 67-28.
After starting out with a 23-9 lead after the 1st quarter, South nearly doubled their lead during the second quarter to make the halftime score 43-18. South never looked back after that.
Woods led the Panthers with 17 points, while Meek added 15 of his own, including a dunk in the 1st quarter that sealed the momentum in the Panthers favor. Sophomore Allan Hyatt also had a big night, scoring 9 points.
Besides the scoring barrage by South, defense and discipline played an important role in the game. The Welty Brothers, junior Hudson and freshman Ryan, accounted for some key blocked shots, while senior Anthony Woods had important steals to clinch the victory.
With the win, South advances to play the Kearney Bulldogs in Thursday night’s Semifinals Match-up. The Bulldogs beat Oak Park 49-41 on Tuesday night.
