Sandy’s Mess

The death toll caused from Hurricane Sandy has risen to 65 as of Sunday, October 28.

The deaths thus far have been in the Caribbean, mostly Haiti where 51 have died. Haiti was hit with  heavy, non-stop rain for three consecutive days which ended on Friday. As the water has receded people are now seeing how much damage has really been caused by the storm. Sandy made bridges collapse, ruined banana crops and flooded homes and other building. It is very possible that the death toll will continue to rise.

Most of the deaths in Haiti were where many are still living in unreliable, unstable shelters since their homes were ruined in the 2010 earthquake.

Eleven deaths have been reported in Cuba from the storm. Others deaths were in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.

Sandy is not done yet and is still expected to cause much more damage.
