Start guns are sounding, baseball bats are cracking, and soccer balls are flying. As Spring sports’ practices began this week, athletes all over south have been hard at work as they begin training for the season.
The girls soccer, boys tennis, boys gold, baseball, and track teams have begun their every day practices in preparation for the approaching season. As well as returning athletes, many of these sports are welcoming a large number of new members to join in on the fun.
Coaches are very excited for the upcoming season as well. In addition to coaching athletes they have worked with in the past, the search for new shining stars is much anticipated by South coaches.
“The team is looking really good so far. We have a great group of girls and I think this year will be the best out of all four I’ve played at South,” said Katie Riojas, senior soccer player.
Whether you’re an experienced senior hoping to kill it in your last high school season, or a freshman looking to establish a name for yourself in the athletic department, one thing is for certain: practice makes perfect.
“Along with all of our conditioning, we’ve already started playing outside and getting a feel for what the season is going to be like,” said Max Laney, sophomore baseball player.
Usually at this time of year, the weather doesn’t permit much outside activity. But, with the early arrival of Spring-type weather this year, outside practices have already become an option.
Whether you’re a coach or an athlete, a returning player or fresh face, the excitement and hard work of another Spring sports season is underway.
