Baby Blue

It’s official: Blue Ivy Carter was born to music sensations Beyoncé and Jay-Z on Saturday, Dec. 7. She was birthed naturally and weighed seven pounds, according to People.com.

Blue Ivy’s birth has definitely caused some talk. Supposedly, parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z rented out the entire maternity floor of the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City for $1.3 million. South students are not surprised at the drastic measures taken by the parents.

Danielle Owen (11) said, “Other celebrities have done it too, so why wouldn’t they?”

However, okmagazine.com said that the rumor is not true. But, Blue Ivy was born in an executive suite surrounded with security officials.

Most celebrities name their children something out of the ordinary, and Jay-Z and Beyoncé are no exception. The name “Blue Ivy” comes from aspects of their relationship, according to ABCnews.com.

“Blue” comes from Jay-Z. His three most recent albums are titled “The Blueprint,” “The Blueprint 2: The Gift and the Curse” and “The Blueprint 3.” The rapper also often wears a blue New York Yankees cap.

The second part of the name, “Ivy,” comes from the Roman numeral IV. The number four is specific in their relationship. Beyoncé’s birthday is September 4 and Jay-Z’s is December 4. The couple married on April 4, 2008.

According to people.com, Beyoncé’s family said that Blue Ivy is “the most beautiful girl in the world.” Congrats to the new parents on their new little princess!
