Leading up to the Grammy Awards and Academy Awards that take place next month, the red carpet season kicked off on Wednesday night with The 38th Annual People’s Choice awards. Other than most award shows, these awards are chosen by the public through online voting.
Katy Perry was expected to make her first public appearance after her split with Russel Brand, but couldn’t make it to the event.
She told her fans she was not attending earlier this week, tweeting ‘”I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!”
Many of her fans took the time to vote as she was the big winner of the night, taking home awards in 5 different categories. She was honored as favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year, best music video and favorite TV guest start for her role in “How I met Your Mother”.
Emma Stone, who starred in several movies in 2011, including box office success ‘ The Help’ ,won awards for both favorite movie actress and favorite comedy movie actress.
“I moved to L.A. eight years ago this week with my mom, who’s right there,” Stone said to the crowd. “It is so insane to be standing up here right now. It is hard to describe to you.”
14-year old Chloe Moretz was the youngest winner of the night, beating all Harry Potter actors in the category Favorite Movie Star Under 25. The last Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II did take home awards in 4 other categories, including Favorite Movie.
The next big awards show will be the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards which will be aired on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 8/7c.
