Winter Reading

As an avid reader and writer, I find that there is so much time to kick back, relax, and take in a good book (or┬áthree) over winter break. Nine days of nothing but time leaves me yearning for a good book. If you’re the same way, you should check out the books below. I’ve read more than one of them more than once already, but there’s nothing better than relaxing the day away with a good novel.

The first book on my list is Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. It’s an enthralling novel about a world in which you are one of two things: Ugly or Pretty. When each citizen comes of age, they undergo a fantastic surgery that transforms their seemingly normal bodies in to a beauty that only modern day supermodels embody. But, don’t think this novel is shallow, it is full of adventures into the outlands of the world, where only uglies exist, followed by battles, highspeed chases, and amazing inventions that not even modern science could bring about. It is truely a book that will suck you in right from the beginning.

If you’re into vampires, Vampire Academy might be a good book for you. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess and they have been on the run from the academy for years. Until one night, they’re caught. Their world gets tossed upside down in the adventure back into the not-so-safe clutches of the academy they want so desperately to get away from. While this seems like a chick book, it’s actually full of action and fighting for people who like that sort of thing.

The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong is one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. Children are told they’re mentally insane and thrown together in a wild experiment that leads to raising the dead and running from evil scientists. It has a tad bit of romance interlaced in all that, but it’s pretty much as action packed as my favorite books can come. I wont spoil too much for you, but I will say that I’m definately reading this book when our break begins.
