South’s Varsity Soccer team earned the title of co-conference champions last Thursday. After a tough loss in overtime to Fort Osage, they made their comeback to win 10-0 against Raytown South. They share the co-conference title with Fort O.
Although the team beat Park Hill 3-0 last month, South came up short in their district game on Tuesday night.
“It was a hard fought game, and it was really intense,” said Nick Smith, (11) captain.
Smith said there were several cards throughout the game, and it was a very close match.
“We lost in double overtime,” said Josh Hunt (11).
Despite the hard loss, the boys had a successful season with a record of 16-7-1. Hunt said it was a good season, but it wasn’t a great season.
According to Andrew Saunders (11), there was more than one game the team should have won.
“We should have beaten Liberty,” said Saunders, “but they were playing dirty.”
The team thinks this season was different from the past. They said that juniors made up most of varsity. The only four seniors this season included captains Tyler Easton and Ethan Robb, along with Bob Geary and Sam Tuggle.
Because of the large number of returning starters, the boys have hope for the future.
“We’re really going to miss the seniors,” said Smith, “but I’m excited for next season.”
