Boys basketball team continues solid season with dominating performance over Belton
by danny jones
When South hosted the Belton Pirates on January 14, the first quarter had all the signs of a white-knuckled, edge-of-your-seat affair. The score was 10-10, and neither team was able to take control of the game from the outset.
11 minutes and 35 seconds after the first quarter ended, and after the Panthers scored 26 consecutive points to make the score 36-10 with 3:15 left in the third, the game had turned into anything but a back-and-forth contest.
Senior Christian Hildebrandt led all scorers with 24 points, a big lift for a Panthers team who
brought up numerous underclassmen to help add depth to a depleted bench.
With the win, the Panthers improved to a 10-5 record. With the loss, Belton fell to 3-10.
